During Monday’s meeting, Truro Town Council voted to approve two requests for property tax exemption, but two others were refused.

Both the Truro Homeless Outreach Society and the Colchester-East Hants Hospice Society had their requests, covering the next three years, approved.

A request by the Truro Golf Course was rejected because it charges members to use facilities and can increase fees to cover expenses. The golf course is not taxed on the land, so the request involved facilities such as the clubhouse.

The Colchester-East Hants branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association had applied for a tax exemption on their new property on Prince Street. This was denied because it doesn’t meet criteria set forth in the bylaws. To meet criteria, services would need to be provided from the property.
