ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — RNC Police Service Dog Gunner was called into action Tuesday night and successfully tracked down a wanted man who escaped police custody.

Around 10 p.m., police found the 23-year-old man, sought on an outstanding warrant, in the centre city area. During the course of the arrest, he escaped, on foot, from the officers. That’s when Gunner was called in for the assist.

The man was arrested on the warrant without further incident, but also picked up charges of resisting arrest and breaching court orders.

He’ll appear in provincial court this morning.
