Teen charged with mischief after prank kidnapping call

Halifax Regional Police have charged a teenager with mischief after they received a prank call about a kidnapping Wednesday night.

At 8 p.m., officers responded to a report of a kidnapping and death threats to a man in Halifax, police said in a news release.

Two hours later, investigators were able to trace the phone of the alleged victim to an address in the 0-50 block of Rosedale Avenue in Halifax, but weren’t able to get in touch with anyone in the residence.

At roughly 1:25 a.m., members of the emergency response team arrested two men and a woman from inside the Rosedale Avenue. The alleged victim was found unharmed.

Shortly after, investigators located and arrested the suspected caller in the 3800 block of Mont Blanc Terrace in Halifax.

After an investigation, it was concluded a 17-year-old boy had made a prank call, saying the kidnapped man would be killed if his demands weren’t met.

The teenager was charged with mischief and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. The adults were released without charges.
