Lunenburg RCMP arrest two drivers within 20 minutes for driving while impaired

Just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 1, RCMP were setting up a check point in Blockhouse when they saw a motorcycle, with a rider who wasn’t wearing a helmet, approaching. In an attempt to avoid police, the rider turned and fled, but within a few minutes RCMP found the motorcycle lying in a ditch. RCMP Police Dog Services arrived and found the man in the woods.

As a result, a 30-year-old man from Mason's Beach is facing charges for Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample, Resisting Arrest, and Flight from Police. He will appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on January 31.

Sixteen minutes after the first arrest, RCMP assisted DNR with a traffic stop on Naugler Rd. in Oakhill involving an impaired driver on an ATV. The 34-year-old man from Pine Grove is facing charges for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Over the Legal Limit. Breath samples were nearly three times the legal limit. The man was held in custody overnight and will appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on December 20.

Both driver's vehicles were seized and their licenses have been suspended for 90 days.
