Halifax police charge man in connection with parking spot scam

On January 11, a 28-year-old Halifax man was charged with four fraud related offenses and one count of breaching a court order, in connection with a parking space rental scam.

On September 12, 2017 police received a complaint from a woman reporting she responded to ad on Kijiji advertising a parking spot for rent at 5296 Kent Street. She e-transferred $450 to the poster and began parking her vehicle in the spot, but the property owner let her know that she was not authorized to park in the spot and the post was a scam.

Police warned the public about the scam, prompting three more complaints from people who had transferred money to the same email address for parking space.

The man who has been charged is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on February 27, and police are seeking a second suspect.
