If you’re thinking about Googling that popular casserole recipe making the rounds, make sure your virus software is up to date.
The RCMP has put out a warning about a recent online scam in which frequently queried recipes are identified by hackers who are able to lock your computer. They then demand money in order to unlock the computer, in what’s known as a ransomware attack.
“The RCMP suggests as a preventive measure, to ensure your computer’s virus protection software is up-to-date,” the RCMP said in a news release Thursday. “If you have been victimized by this scam, disconnect your computer from the internet immediately and take it to a trusted professional to have it repaired.”
