WALDEC - An 89-year-old man who was being transported by ambulance to Yarmouth is dead after the EHS vehicle crashed on Highway 101 early on Dec. 5.
Annapolis District RCMP said in a release Dec. 9 they are investigating the fatal motor vehicle crash and the ambulance involved will undergo a mechanical inspection as part of the investigation.
Police said that at 12:44 a.m. on Dec. 5, Annapolis District RCMP received a call of a single-vehicle crash involving an EHS ambulance on Highway 101, near Exit 23 in Waldeck. The ambulance was transporting a patient -- an 89-year-old Yarmouth man -- from Kentville to Yarmouth when it went off the road and into the ditch.
Two EHS paramedics and the patient were transferred to another ambulance to continue on to Yarmouth Regional Hospital, police said. The patient appeared uninjured at the time, but his condition later deteriorated and he passed away, police said.
Police said their thoughts are with the victim's family during this difficult time.
