TRURO, N.S. — Kurstynn Abbott is hoping to pass a postcard along to family of the woman who mailed it in 1929.
She bought the postcard, with an image of Inglis Street on it, a few years ago at a shop called Washed Ashore, in Wareham, N.L.
“Was living in Labrador City and was in Newfoundland to see my grandmother, but I bought the card because I was born in Truro,” she said. “I paid about $4 for it, and I asked the man who ran the store about it, but he couldn’t remember how he got it.”
Abbott scanned the card and then traced the writing, which had faded over the years. She then laminated it to prevent more damage.
It was originally sent by someone called Margaret, who listed her address as “P.N. College, Truro, NS” to “Miss Edith Melanson, Gilberts Cove, Digby Co., NS.” It could be surmised the sender attended the Provincial Normal College.
“As much as I love this card, I would love to reach out and find the family and see if they're interested in keeping it,” Abbott said. “Chances are the person who owned it has passed but if any family members would like to have it I would be happy to send it to them.”
If any family members are in the Truro area they can meet Abbott to pick up the card, as she has now moved back to the area.
