A 27-year-old Greenwood man is due in court in July on impaired driving charges after a crash in Greenwood Square Wednesday night.
Kings RCMP were called to the Ward Road shortly after 9 p.m. after someone called them to say a car went into the ditch and the driver took off on foot.
When officers arrived there was no one in the car, but witnesses pointed them in the right direction and a man and a woman were found sitting in the ditch near the location of the collision. The man fled into the woods on foot but police were able to catch up to him and he was arrested without incident. The female also fled but she was found in the ditch on the opposite side of the road from where she was initially spotted.
Other witnesses told police they tried to block the vehicle in when it left a nearby address before the crash because they believed the driver was impaired.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening. The man refused treatment and was given a breathalyzer test, which recorded blood alcohol levels of more then twice the legal limit.
He is charged with impaired driving, impaired driving causing bodily harm and operating an unregistered vehicle.
