DIGBY, N.S. — A cross that is more than 100 years old, and that was stolen from a Digby church, has been returned, the RCMP say.

At 10:13 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, Digby RCMP responded to a call of a break and enter at Trinity Anglican Church in Digby. The RCMP learned that someone broke into the church and stole a cross from the altar. The cross, which is over 100 years old, is made of brass and has a jewel in the centre.

In a followup media release the RCMP say the cross that was reported stolen was returned to the church Christmas Eve evening.

"A woman brought the undamaged cross to the church and gave it to an employee," the RCMP media release reads. There was no other information provided by the RCMP in the media release about where the cross had been or the circimstances of its return.

The investigation is still ongoing, the police say.

According to the RCMP, the break-in had occurred sometime between noon on Dec. 23 and 10 a.m. on Dec. 24. The RCMP said damage to the church was minor and nothing else had been stolen.

Because the investigation is still ongoing, the Digby RCMP are still asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them at 902-245-2579.
