KENTVILLE, N.S. — It was a beautiful day for a parade.

Thousands lined the route for the Apple Blossom Festival Grand Street Parade under sunny skies in Kentville on June 1.

As always, the parade featured marching bands, floats of all shapes and sizes, princesses and a few surprises.

Nicole Sewards of Hammonds Plains, Princess New Minas in 2014, was among the thousands of visitors that converged on the downtown for the event.

She brought her 15-month-old daughter Lyla Fougere to share the experience. This was Fougere’s second Apple Blossom Festival.

“I always went as a kid and since I was Princess New Minas, it’s really important for me to bring my little one so she can enjoy it, too,” Sewards said.

Sewards particularly enjoys seeing the princess floats and the bands. She said the big crowds brought back memories of past festivals, as did the sunshine. The weather wasn’t as pleasant for last year’s festivities but Sewards remembers that the weather was beautiful the year she was a princess.

For her, it’s all about spending time with family and reuniting with friends she hasn’t seen since she moved away two years ago. Sewards said they came down Friday night to take in the fireworks and planned to spend Saturday taking in the sights and sounds.
