A man and a woman face child pornography charges after police executed a search warrant Wednesday at their home on Herring Cove Road in Halifax.

Garnet Ray Thacker, 57, and Edna M. Murphy, 42, are both charged with possession of child pornography. Thacker is also charged with distribution.

Thacker appeared in Halifax provincial court Thursday and was released on his own recognizance with several conditions.

He cannot use the internet for anything other than banking, education and employment purposes and is prohibited from having contact with anyone under the age of 16 unless it’s in the immediate presence of a parent or guardian who is aware of the charges against him.

Judge Amy Sakalauskas also ordered Thacker not to communicate with two individuals whose identities are protected by a publication ban and to stay away from parks, playgrounds, pools, community centres and other places frequented by children, as well as one particular address in Halifax.

Thacker will return to court in October.

Murphy was released from custody by police and will be arraigned on her charge in February.

Members of the Halifax Regional Police-RCMP internet child exploitation unit obtained the warrant after receiving information from the National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre that suspected child pornography had been uploaded from an IP address in Halifax.

A number of electronic devices were seized for forensic analysis, police said.
