Halifax RCMP are crediting a citizen in the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect in a hit-and-run collision in Cole Harbour.

The caller told police at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday that a woman had struck two parked, unoccupied vehicles on Colby Drive and left the area.

The caller had recorded the make, model and colour of the vehicle, a description of the driver and the direction of travel, RCMP said in a news release.

Police used the description to arrest the driver on Greenwich Drive.

The teenager from Cole Harbour did not have a valid driver’s licence and had taken the vehicle she was driving without consent. She was released into her parents’ custody and charges are pending.

“The RCMP would like to thank the caller who gave the helpful information,” the release said. “Licence plate numbers and descriptions of a driver and vehicle can assist in investigations. Residents are asked to record this information if it is safe to do so, should they see a crime happening.”
