Police in Halifax County are trying to identify a person who left a firearm in a backpack at a restaurant.

RCMP say that just before 3 p.m. on Aug. 30, a man entered a restaurant on Sackville Drive in Lower Sackville and left a short time later. He left the backpack behind, and when an employee checked inside for contact information for the owner, they found the firearm inside.

RCMP say the incident is now under investigation by the integrated criminal investigation division, but won’t say whether or not they think the backpack was forgotten, or left to be picked up by someone else.

Police have surveillance images of the person who left the firearm, and released them to the public Wednesday in the hope someone can identify him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP, Halifax Regional Police, or Crime Stoppers.
