The pace of restoration slowed Thursday as Nova Scotia Power turned its attention to smaller outages across the province.
As of 4 p.m. on Thursday, the number stood at about 28,000, only about 5,000 fewer than the early morning count. That was a marked contrast to the roughly 50,000 customers who were restored on Wednesday.
In a tweet Thursday morning, the utility said 34 crews from New Brunswick Power and 32 New Brunswick contractors had joined the restoration effort.
“These new recruits are heading straight to our areas with the largest number of customer outages, including Shelburne, Liverpool and Bridgewater.”

The Emera-owned company said it had 397 power line crews, 83 forestry crews and 68 damage assessment teams on the job.

There was the usual mix of anger about the prolonged outage and appreciation for the efforts of NSP crews on social media. About 400,000 customers lost power after Dorian slammed into the Maritimes on Saturday.
“Maybe if Nova Scotia power actually maintained the shrubs and trees within the proximity of the lines, they wouldn’t have had a record setting outage,” a Twitter user said Thursday.
Another tweep was thankful for “every member of @nspowerinc and beyond who have worked and are still working to get #NovaScotia back up and running bright.”
