Quentrel Provo thought he would only have seven or eight seconds to snap a quick photo with Barack Obama.

“I was so nervous all week, thinking about what I was going to say to him, and then the moment came and it was just so easy to talk to him,” Provo said.

Provo landed a meet-and-greet thanks to the CEO of Atlantic Credit Unions, the main sponsor of Obama’s visit, after putting out a call on Twitter.

In the few minutes he had with Obama before getting his picture taken, Provo shared what he’s doing to spread love and stop violence.

“He told me to keep up the great work and when I took my hat off, he even said, ‘You’ve got a nice shaved head,” Provo said with a laugh.

“He has a really down to earth personality. The conversation was everything I expected and more.”

Provo’s parents couldn’t snag a pair of tickets to the event, but their son made sure they would have a little something special as a remembrance of Obama’s visit to Halifax.

“I asked him to sign this hat for my parents, who celebrated 25 years in April,” said Provo, holding a baseball hat reading ‘Happy 25th!’ with Obama’s signature on the bill.

Meeting Obama is a moment Provo will never forget and it reminded him of his own message.

“It brought me back to not giving up, being resilient and knowing you’re going to fail, but just keep pushing through,” Provo said.

“His message was powerful as expected and I’ll never forget that moment for the rest of my life.”
