A 51-year-old Kentville man died after his car went off a road in the Annapolis Valley on Saturday morning and landed in the Cornwallis River.

Kings District RCMP received a call at 9:50 a.m. to respond to a single-vehicle crash on Lovett Road in Brooklyn Corner, near Coldbrook, RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Lisa Croteau said Saturday afternoon.

"A car travelling southbound left the road and landed in the river," she said.

"The driver from Kentville was transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased."

First responders from the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department attended the crash.

An RCMP collision analyst was at the scene and the road was closed until shortly before 4 p.m.

Croteau said there was no indication at that time what might have caused the crash, which was still under investigation.

The man who died was the only person in the vehicle.
