Halifax Regional Police have charged a man for deliberately setting a Spryfield apartment building on fire Thursday morning.

At 7:44 a.m. Thursday, crews from seven fire stations, Halifax Regional Police and EHS responded to a blaze at 197 Spencer Ave.

Everyone inside the building was able to get out safely. One man suffered smoke inhalation and minor injuries.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in roughly 15 minutes, but the building suffered extensive damage and left at least 10 residents displaced.

Officers arrested Chris Joseph Drysdale, 35, of Halifax at a Robie Street residence at 9:15 a.m. Thursday.

Drysdale is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Friday to face a charge of arson causing property damage.
