A 27-year-old Victoria County man will apppear in court in September in connection with a collision in Big Bras d’Or last week that killed a 10-year-old girl who was riding a bicycle, RCMP say.
The crash happened Thursday at about 9:45 p.m. on Black Rock Road.
Talia Forrest of North Sydney was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV involved in the collision failed to stop and was later located by police at a home in Victoria County.
RCMP said the driver was arrested for a number of driving-related offences and released on conditions. He will be arraigned in Wagmatcook provincial court Sept. 5.
“The Northeast Nova major crimes unit is investigating this matter and will make a determination on the most appropriate charges as the investigation progresses,” RCMP said in a news release Monday.
A GoFundMe page set up for Talia’s family had raised about $13,000 by Monday afternoon.
A funeral service for Talia will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Carman United Church in Sydney Mines.
