TRURO, N.S. — Colchester Transportation Cooperative Limited (CTCL) received some vital funding this week.
Colchester North MLA Karen Casey stopped by to announce the provincial government would provide $172,492 to the transportation service this year.
“If we didn’t have the funding, we wouldn’t be able to provide the service,” said Susan Taylor, CTCL manager. “It will be used for operational expenses such as vehicle repairs, fuel and phones.”
CTCL has four vehicles, with another one arriving next week, and they’re all in operation most days.
“One misconception is that the service is only for people in wheelchairs and for seniors,” said Taylor. “Anybody can ride our vehicles. We ask that people book at least 24 hours in advance, further ahead for longer trips.
“We also have a charter licence, so we can take groups to places.”
In June, 1,879 passengers used the service.
The provincial funding is provided through the Department of Community, Culture and Heritage’s Community Transportation Assistance Program. CTCL has been receiving funding through the province for 20 years. Colchester County and the Town of Truro also provide funds.
