The cause of a fire which broke out in the shipping department at the Advocate Printing Facility is still under investigation, but everything else is business as usual.

“Things are moving forward here,” said Crystal Murray, president of Advocate media operations. “We’re very grateful to the first responders who were able to contain the fire in the way that they did.”

The building’s security system first alerted 9/11 of the fire at approximately 12:25 p.m. on March 24. An employee passing the facility on the 106 highway and saw smoke coming out of one of the building’s vents also phoned it in.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but not before causing damage to the side of the building and the roof.

“Our engineering firm will be doing a walk through, accessing that structural damage and making sure that we can take care of those things in a timely manner,” said Murray.

Advocate printing shipping and inserting departments have since been relocated.

“Basically, it’s business as usual today.”
