Halifax Regional Police have charged a man in connection with a stabbing overnight Monday.

Police said in a release that thet were called Tuesday morning to the 2100 block of Gottingen Street after security in the area found what appeared to be blood from an altercation the previous evening.

As part of their investigation, police found that there had been an altercation involing three men believed to know one another. One of the individuals was stabbed and all three fled the area on foot. Police were able to identify all three people and locate them.

They say the stabbing victim suffered injuries to his hand that were not life-threatening.

The suspect had already been arrested on an unrelated matter and was being held at police headquarters in Halifax.

Brian Stanley Knowles, 43, of Halifax was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Wednesday to face charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, carrying concealed weapon and three counts of breaching a recognizance.

Police said Knowles had not been charged yet in connection with the offence for which he was initially arrested.
