The province will pay a contractor $1.6 million to demolish the CBC building on Bell Road to make way for an expansion of the Halifax Infirmary site of the QE Health Sciences Centre.
The new site will include a cancer centre, outpatient centre, research and innovation centre, and an expanded inpatient care centre, according to a release from the Health Department.
“The federal government declared the CBC Bell Road building and property no longer needed,” said the release. “In November 2017, the province purchased the CBC Building for $4.5 million that included two acres of land with a parking lot that has 93 spaces.”
A request for proposals for the demolition work will be issued this fall. The work is slated to start next February.
