SYDNEY, N.S. — A small protest in support of Canada Post workers was held in Sydney on Monday night.
Nine people with flags and signs stood in the cold outside of Canada Post’s mail processing plant on Upper Prince Street. The group was made up of professionals from other unions supporting Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) members.
Protesters have been rallying outside Canada Post facilities across the country. This comes after the federal government legislated postal workers back on the job on Nov. 27.
Police arrested six people outside a Canada Post sorting facility in Halifax on Dec. 2. Police were also called at a similar protest in Mississauga, Ont. The Sydney demonstration, however, was a peaceful one.
The group arrived at about 6 p.m. It wasn’t known how long they would be on site.
