Nova Scotia Power customers are being warned about a text message scam that claims they’re eligible for a refund.

The text says the utility has sent the customer money and directs them to click a link, select their financial institution and enter their personal identification number.

“These texts are not from Nova Scotia Power,” the company said in a news release Thursday. “Nova Scotia Power would never ask customers to provide personal information such as their PIN.”

Anyone who received this text should call police, NSP said. If a recipient has clicked on the link, they should immediately contact their financial institution.

NSP encourages customers to call 1-800-428-6230 if they receive unexpected communications about bills or credits.
