SYDNEY, N.S. — After a 19-year run as the member of Parliament for Sydney-Victoria, Mark Eyking has announced he will not seek re-election in the next federal election.

The move was announced through a press release sent to media this morning at 5:40 a.m. In that release, Eyking said it was time to move on to the next chapter.

"The decision not to run in the upcoming federal election has not been easy for me, especially with the many wonderful relationships made at home and abroad," he wrote in the release.

"My travels in the last 19 years have brought me to virtually all homes in my riding, every province and territory and many countries around the world. We have many challenges in this riding but there is no better region to represent because of the hard work and resilience of our people."
