A man is in custody following an incident in Dartmouth that began late Friday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police report that at about 5:37 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building on Highfield Park Drive in Dartmouth. There had been a report of a male inside his apartment causing damage and he was said to be armed with a knife.

When police went to speak to the male at the apartment he refused to open the door and indicated he was armed with a knife.

A number of officers were at the scene, including crisis negotiation and members of the emergency response team.

At approximately 10:08 p.m. police took a 30-year-old male into custody.
