Mounties arrested a 40-year-old woman Friday night in Sherwood, Lunenburg Co., who was behind the wheel of her car and blew five times over the legal limit on the breathalyzer.
Police were called to a dirt road off Highway 14 just before 7 p.m. by a woman who had just come out of the woods after a hike.
“When she was trying to exit a wooded, rural area, she was blocked in by another vehicle at the end of the roadway,” Sgt. Mark MacPherson said Monday.
“And the lady in that parked vehicle appeared to be impaired or in some form of distress almost -- like slumped over.”
The woman who just finished her hike called 911 and when police arrived, they determined the other woman, whose vehicle was running, was impaired by alcohol.
“The keys were in the ignition and the car was on,” MacPherson said. “She (had) care and control of the vehicle even though we didn’t find her driving.”
But he pointed out that: “she had to get there somehow.”
The woman is now facing charges for impaired care and control by alcohol and care and control over the legal limit after breath samples confirmed she was five times over the legal limit, says an RCMP news release.
Being that drunk would involve “severe loss of motor skill, judgement, you name it,” MacPherson said.
“That’s extremely high. That’s the highest readings I’ve heard of or experienced in almost 23 years of policing.”
The woman is slated to appear Dec. 12 in Bridgewater provincial court.
“She won’t be allowed to drive for 90 days and after that it will depend on the outcome of the trial,” MacPherson said.
