TRURO, N.S.

Atlantic Road Construction of Eastern Passage beat out six other companies in the bidding for construction of a new sidewalk on Village Line Avenue.

The project involves construction of 800 metres of sidewalk along Village Line Avenue from Pictou Road to College Road.

Atlantic Road Construction won the tender with a low bid of $557,895 (excluding the HST cost of $83,684.25).

The difference in bids, from lowest to highest, was $268,605.

Colchester County Council had approved a capital cost for the project of $800,000, with half of the costs being funded by the Village of Bible Hill.

Other project costs factored in with that figure include $5,000 for materials testing, $10,000 (staff time) and $23,911 (rebated tax).

A total of $15,000 has already been committed to the project, including $10,000 for surveying costs and $5,000 for staff time.

The project is to be completed by mid-September.
