TRURO, N.S. — Update: Lavinia Drive is now open and police have left the area. A a 22-year-old Truro man was arrested for weapons related offences and is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.

Armed police have surrounded an apartment building on Lavinia Drive in Truro, N.S., as a situation continues to unfold.
Access points to the street are blocked by police vehicles and officers are turning back motorists driving along Kaulback Street.
Truro Police Chief Dave MacNeil said officers arrived at the property around 10 a.m. and called in the RCMP Emergency Response team, which arrived around 2 p.m.
“We got a call earlier in the morning from a nearby business where the individual had been causing an issue,” he said. “We learned that he got to the Lavinia Drive residence.”
Some people have been moved out of their homes, and others have been told not to go outside and to keep away from windows
A resident who is still at home said she could see police, with weapons drawn, around an apartment building.
