Residents of Bible Hill have the opportunity to decide who will fill a seat on the village commission.
Two candidates – Karen Mills and Kevin Kennedy – have put their names forward to fill the seat.
Voting takes place on June 9 with polls open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the village office, 67 Pictou Rd. Advance polls will be open at the village office on Tuesday, June 5 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Kennedy has been a village commissioner for the past three years.
“I grew up here and it’s a great community,” he said. “I’ve watched the community grow, and the people grow, and I enjoy helping with the village. With the commission, I’m involved with a bunch of good people that have the same mindset.”
Kennedy, who has a wife and two sons, lives on College Road and works as manager at Kennedy’s Variety and Deli, on Ryland Avenue.
He is a hockey fan, and coached young hockey players for several years.
Getting involved in municipal politics is something new for Mills.
“I thought about it for a few years, and then decided to stop thinking about it and just do it,” she said. “I really love this community. Bible Hill is a great place to live and I think it’s important to be involved. I want to have a say in things that are done, and bring the concerns of others to the table.”
Mills, who is originally from Dartmouth, moved to Colchester County about 20 years ago, and has been living in Bible Hill for the past 10 years. She works as a controller at Aggregate Equipment and takes evening classes in business and accounting through Mount Saint Vincent University.
She lives on Pictou Road with her partner of 24 years, Kathy, and their German shepherd, Marley.
