TRURO, N.S. — A woman was ticketed for violating the Animal Protection Act after leaving a dog in a vehicle at the Truro Mall Thursday evening.
Truro Police Service was called about the dog after mall security was unable to find the vehicle owner.
When officers arrived, the dog was panting heavily and appeared to be in distress. They broke the rear window of the car, removed the dog and gave it water.
The temperature at the time was 32C with the humidex, and it would have been much warmer in the vehicle, which only had windows open a crack.
After about 20 minutes, the owner returned to her vehicle and was issued with a ticket, which carries a fine of $410.
The Truro Police Service is asking all pet owners to leave pets at home where they are comfortable.
