A Truro man is recovering in a Halifax hospital with serious head and facial injuries after being struck down by a vehicle late Sunday night.

TRURO, N.S. — “We got a call to go to the hospital a little bit before one (a.m. Monday),” Truro Police Inspector Rob Hearn said. “It’s very concerning. Obviously, we’re taking the matter very seriously and we have investigators on it.”

A Facebook posting by Chance Johnson shows pictures of his face and head that portray two blackened eyes, cuts and bruising on his forehead, nose and upper lip.

“2 days ago my entire life changed within 5 seconds,” the Facebook post reads. “i am making this post to get it out to the public.”

Johnson’s post says someone in a black Jeep “Purposely struck me on my way down lyman st, this vehicle was waiting for me… .”

He said the Jeep came “rushing down the street”  towards him at “full tilt” and after knocking him down, the driver and at least one passenger got out, picked him up, then went through his pockets and stole his cell phone, which was all he had on him, before throwing him “all bloodied” back down onto the pavement.

Johnson said he suffered two skull fractures, had to have surgery to repair a “concaved structure of my frontal lobe” as well as a sinus fracture. Other injuries included cuts to his lips and gums which required a total of 21 stitches.

Johnson could not be reached directly for comment.

Hearn said the case is being investigated by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division but he wasn’t at liberty to disclose any leads the police are working on.

“We’re still early in the investigation but we are looking for any information that anybody has on this matter.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Truro Police Service at 902 895-5351.
