A third alleged accomplice in a violent home invasion has yet to have his day in court.

Brett Joseph Atkinson, 22, of Onslow Mountain Road was charged along with two other individuals following a robbery at a Queen Street, Truro residence around 7 a.m. on Jan. 27, 2017.

The other two individuals involved, Austin Michael Garrett, 20, of Highway 311, North River, and Dylan Alexander MacKinnon, 20, of Dominion Avenue, Truro, both pled guilty to their part in the home invasion/robbery and were each sentenced to two-year prison sentences followed by two years of probation.

A story published in the Friday, March 23 edition of the Truro Daily News incorrectly stated that the third individual had not been identified and was never charged. Atkinson was arrested along with the other two men, however, and is charged with robbery with an offensive weapon or an imitation and with intent to commit robbery while his face was masked.

He has pled not guilty is scheduled for a voir dire hearing in provincial court next Nov. 26.

During MacKinnon’s sentencing hearing, Judge Al Bégin described the offence as a “violent” home invasion in an effort to collect a $70 cocaine debt that involved one of the intruders holding a replica gun to the victim’s head while another held a box cutter knife to his throat.
