TATAMAGOUCHE – Excitement is building in the village of Tatamagouche for the fire department’s annual Labour Day weekend picnic and parade.

A giant yard sale is planned at the hall for Saturday, Aug. 31 begining at 9 a.m. along with viewing for a silent auction. Bidding will end every hour until 12 p.m.

The fire department is asking businesses and individuals for donations of quality items to be auctioned. They can be dropped off at the hall, Church Street entrance, any evening until Aug. 30. For more information call Ian MacDonald, 257-2215 or Peter Lockerby, 657-2420.

On Sunday volunteers will be working to transform the hall into a carnival atmosphere for Monday’s main event.

A street parade will be held on Labour Day beginning at noon.

Following the parade there will be carnival games at the hall on Main Street, cotton candy, bingo and a canteen hosted by the firefighters all afternoon.

A variety show featuring old time fiddlers will be held at 2 p.m., a traditional baked bean supper will be held at the North Colchester High School cafeteria at 4:30 p.m. and there will be evening entertainment of country and folk music at 7 p.m. at the fire hall.

All proceeds are for the department.
