Stanfield’s Ltd., in Truro, has produced a limited edition of boxer shorts and T-shirts with the Prostate Cancer Canada logo. Jon Stanfield, Stanfield’s president, confirms the business is the lead sponsor for the Pants Off For Prostate event, which will be held at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax on Feb. 22 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“It’s a logical fit … we are in the men’s underwear business,” Stanfield said. “And one in seven men have prostate cancer at some point. It affects so many men and families.”
Pants Off is a dance-without-your-pants cocktail party with guest speakers and is open to both men and women. Men are encouraged to check their pants at the door and show off their underwear at the fundraising event that will aid prostate cancer research and awareness.
Stanfield said his company hopes to encourage other sponsors to support the event, bring awareness of prostate health and will offer money for the cause. He declined to say how much Stanfield’s will contribute.
Although he isn’t aware of any men in his own family who have battled prostate cancer, Stanfield knows it’s an issue that shouldn’t be avoided.
“Men don’t take care of themselves. Nine times out of 10 women push men to get tested. It’s treatable and curable if caught in time and only requires regular screening and bloodwork. Getting tested early can save your life.”
As far as the Pants Off For Prostate event, Stanfield said he will proudly walk around in his underwear for the cause.
“They want men to check their pants at the door. It should be fun and funny.”
The event is open to everyone and tickets can be obtained for $50 at Stanfield’s in Truro, the Take It Outside store in Dartmouth and at the event. The Stanfield’s boxer and T-shirt package can be purchased for $35.
