It was just after 1:30 p.m. when Bill Ring came around the corner from Smith Avenue onto Golf Street and watched the bus driver in front of him slide off the road.
"He came around the corner and all of a sudden I saw the snow flying, and he hit the (power) pole," Ring said. "The pole snapped and that was about it."
The lines came down and scattered across the lawns of two houses just around the bend. Jumping out of his car, Ring immediately shouted for the driver to stay inside the bus.
Already on the phone with his wife, Ring told her to call 911.
Truro fire responded soon after, along with Truro police, EHS and Nova Scotia Power. It wasn't long before the lines were deadened and everybody was safe.
There were no kids on the bus, and the driver escaped without injury.
As of 2:20 p.m., emergency crews remained on scene and waited for a tow truck to be sent by the school board to remove the bus.
