Nova Scotia RCMP are reminding the public to be careful of fraud scams after a Hilden woman was convinced to send $15,000 to a man in Ontario.

Between June 10 and June 19, the woman received phone calls from a man who told her he was working with a bank and the RCMP and needed her help to catch stealing employees, police said in a news release.

During the conversations, the woman told the man she thought she was being defrauded. The suspect told her to hang up and call the number on the back of the debit card and when she did, he answered, said the release.

The victim ended up sending three packages of money, totalling $15,000, to three separate addresses in the Brampton, Ont., area.

Colchester County RCMP determined the suspect, a 20-year-old man, was in Brampton and he was arrested by Peel Regional Police on June 21.

Two of the three boxes were recovered.
