Howlett is the owner of Soul Eco Salon and Wig Boutique on Prince Street in Truro and was disheartened when she realized six wigs from her business had gone missing at the end of a fashion show hosted by the Downtown Truro Partnership on Wednesday at the Best Western Glengarry.
“It happened as we were packing to leave the event … I was hoping someone picked up the bag of wigs by mistake and would call. I’m getting more worried,” as time passes and the wigs are not returned.
Howlett has made a few phone calls inquiring about the wigs and called Truro police but as of late Friday afternoon, no information had turned up. She’s devastated by the loss and the thought that someone would steal products that help others. The wigs are sold at her business primarily for people who face hair loss due to a number of medical related and genetic issues.
“I don’t see why somebody would want to take wigs. I’m a small, new business (since July) … cash flow is a little bit tight … so it’s pretty devastating to lose that much inventory,” Howlett said, adding she understands what it’s like, especially as a woman, to lose her hair and need assistance.
“It’s very devastating for women to lose hair ... you don’t feel attractive if you don’t have hair. For me, it was a thyroid issue I’ve been fighting for 10 years that was undiagnosed for a while … I was colouring my hair a lot and I thought I was doing it to myself. So many women have severe hair loss and just don’t talk about it.”
Howlett estimated a large per cent of her clients go to her natural-based business specifically for the wigs, which are ordered from Ontario.
Howlett is offering a $100 reward for the return of the wigs, as well as some decorative wreaths. She can be contacted at 893-7685.
