TRURO - A Truro man who assaulted a woman with a golf club has been sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of unrelated charges of assault and extortion.

Charles Derrick Lombard, 30, of 48 Wood St., was sentenced in provincial court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to aggravated assault against Lisa Upham of Truro, who was sent to hospital in Halifax with serious injuries after being attacked with a golf club on July 18th.

Lombard was sentenced to five years in prison on that conviction but was given credit for 38 days custody served while on remand.

He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample and was placed on a 10-year firearms ban.

Lombard received an additional year’s sentence after pleading guilty to attempting to extort money from a loan’s officer at the Toronto Dominion bank in Truro on May 27.

In that case, Lombard threatened to shoot the woman’s son, a police officer, in the heard if she did not give him $1,000.

He was also convicted of possessing cocaine, hydromorphone and marijuana, dating to last Nov. 16., for which he received a sentence totaling 105 days. That time is to be served concurrently (at the same time) to his other sentence.
