Eighteen cadets and five staff of 88 Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps Truro recently celebrated their 60th annual ceremonial review. The event showcases what the cadets have accomplished throughout their training and is a time to recognize significant achievements with awards. This year cadets completed a march past special guests, a drill team presentation, seamanship skills and sailboat-rigging race.
Awards included top cadet to Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Connor Smith; best dressed and parade award to Petty Officer 2nd Class Aaron Watson; most improved to Petty Officer 2nd Class Jessie MacDonald; top shot to Master Seaman Cameron Smith; and best first year to Leading Seaman Riley Peterson-Singer. Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Courtney Cooper was recognized for five years of service to the unit.
More than half the cadets will attend HMCS Acadia in Digby for training this summer.
All teenagers ages 12 to 18 are welcome to learn more about the free program Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Truro Armories.
