Halifax man charged following car/cyclist collision, car crash and break and enter

HALIFAX, NS - An 18-year-old Halifax man is facing several charges following a string of incidents that took place Tuesday morning (Oct. 3).

Investigators with the Halifax Regional Police's sexual assault investigation team of the integrated criminal investigation Division have charged a 76-year-old man in relation to a historical sexual assault that occurred in Halifax in the 1980s.

At 7:11 a.m. police responded to Jubilee Road, where a car has struck a cyclist and then left the scene. A 60-year-old woman was reported to have been struck while stopped to make a left turn onto Fairfield Road. She was not injured. 

At 7:15 a.m., police were called about a car that had crashed and flipped on its roof at the corner of Prince Arthur Street and Tupper Grove. The male driver had been seen walking away from the crash.  

When police went to the residence of the car’s owner they found the apartment had been broken into and car keys, the car, a wallet and a laptop had been stolen.

At 7:39 a.m., patrol officers located a man matching the suspect’s description. He was found to be in possession of the car owner’s stolen items and was arrested without incident. 

The 18-year-old man has been charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
