MONTAGUE, P.E.I. — A Montague area family had some surprise guests early Sunday morning when a Charlottetown woman drove through the walls of their house.
Just after 5 a.m. on June 9, Kings District RCMP received a call from a resident to say a car had driven into their home.
RCMP and Island EMS responded to the scene. No one in the building was hurt, but the home had extensive damage.
The car’s driver and passenger received minor injuries.
The 28-year-old driver was arrested on the scene for impaired driving. She was taken to the Montague RCMP detachment where she provided two breath samples. Both were more than twice the legal limit.
The woman was charged with impaired driving-related offences and released from custody on a promise to appear in Georgetown Provincial Court at a later date.
Her vehicle was impounded.
The family members in the home were referred to the Red Cross for assistance, and they are now getting help from that organization.
The RCMP says everyone is lucky that no serious harm or death was the outcome for any of the parties involved.
The RCMP encourages members of the public to report any suspected impaired drivers.
