Since 1965, when the chief and council of the Pictou Landing First Nation accepted a $60,000 payment for lost hunting and fishing on Boat Harbour, the Northern Pulp Nova Scotia mill has been the focus of controversy. Journalists from SaltWire offices in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. have followed the story from Day 1, and continue to work to bring you the latest developments to a story important to environmentalists, economists and a First Nation whose land and water has been devastated by what former Nova Scotia environment minister Iain Rankin called one of the worst cases of environmental racism in Canada.
