RCMP have laid five charges against Laurie Joseph Melanson, the fire chief in Joggins.
Following an investigation into tampering with Vehicle Identification Numbers RCMP charged the 49-year-old man with tampering with Vehicle Identification Numbers (x 2), possession of property obtained by crime, breach of trust and fraud.
Both vehicles involved are SUVs. One is owned by the Municipality of Cumberland County and the other is a personal vehicle. Spray paint cans and other items used believed to have been used to tamper with VINs were located inside one of the vehicle trunks.
Melanson is scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on March 19 to face the charges.
