HILDEN, N.S.
Members of several fire brigades showed up to fight a fire that broke out at a home on Elm St., in Hilden, early on Saturday, Dec. 22.
The residents of the single-storey house were away, but a neighbour who was out for a walk spotted the fire around 3:10 a.m.
“The fire progressed quickly and caused considerable damage, but we were able to put it out quickly, using very little water” said Hilden Fire Brigade Chief Sheldon Richardson.
“There was an explosion when it reached the freezer. The freon tank heated and exploded.”
Brigades from Cobequid, Truro, Brookfield, Bible Hill, and Stewiacke provided mutual aid in fighting the fire, and Salmon River was on standby.
