TRURO, N.S.
Area motorists were being warned late Monday morning to be aware of flash freezing situations on the roads following flood conditions resulting from overnight rains.
Although it is not uncommon to have Park Street flood during such conditions, the flooding was severe enough to completely shut down the section of Main Street from Park Street/Farnham Road right out to where it intersects with Highway 311 at Marshall’s Corner.
At some spots near the intersection, the water on both sides of Highway 311 was almost level with the roadway.
And Salmon River, which was teeming with rushing water, also overflowed its banks and flooded pastures downstream from the Murray Siding bridge along Queen Street.
The Town of Truro posted a notice on its Facebook page shortly before 3 p.m. Monday advising residents and business owners near the Robie and Queen street marshes to be prepared for the possibility of rising flood waters becaue of ice jams in two locations of the Salmon River currently that are causing flooding.
The notice said that the Emergency Management Organization (EMO) is monitoring the situation.
The overnight rains, which began on Sunday as snow, has caused flooding throughout numerous parts of Nova Scotia.
