DARTMOUTH, N.S. – An Eastern Passage man is facing multiple charges after he was stopped by police and allegedly assaulted an officer and an EHS paramedic.

Monday evening, just before midnight, RCMP received a 911 call of a van driving erratically on Waverly Road‎, Waverly. The vehicle was located and members of the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police pulled over the driver on Wright Avenue, Dartmouth.

According to police, impairment analysis demands were refused by the male driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle. At that point, he assaulted a police officer and uttered threats. EHS also attended and during the driver's health assessment, an EHS paramedic was assaulted. None of their injuries was serious.

The vehicle was searched and two long guns and a large quantity of ammunition were located. One of the firearms was loaded. A quantity of cannabis was also found in the vehicle. The driver, a 58-year-old man from Eastern Passage, was arrested and is facing numerous charges including impaired operation of a motor vehicle; refuse demand; flight from police; unsafe storage of firearm; unauthorized possession of firearm in a motor vehicle; assault; assaulting a police officer; and uttering threats to kill.

He remains in custody and will be scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
