A child seriously injured last month in a collision between a car and a horse-drawn buggy near Ebenezer remains in hospital in Halifax.
RCMP Sgt. Craig Eveleigh was not able to update the condition of the 11-year-old, saying only the child remains at the IWK Health Centre.
The child was airlifted to the IWK following the highway accident on Dec. 17 on Route 224.
The child was one of four children in the buggy. Two other children were sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the buggy, the children’s father, was also sent to hospital.
The 17-year-old driver of the car was sent to hospital too with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police reported at the time that both the buggy and car were travelling east and were on the downside of a hill, when it appears the car hit the back of the buggy.
Eveleigh told The Guardian earlier this week police are waiting for the collision analyst report to be completed to determine if any charges will be laid.
“That could be months away,’’ he said.
Eveleigh added an RCMP officer plans to speak with the Mennonite communities on how to make their buggies safer for travel on P.E.I. roads.
