A Charlottetown woman whose father called the police on her so she would get help with her addiction issues was recently sentenced to 10 days in jail.
Chelsey Lee Bernard, 19, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to a theft, failing to attend court and breaching an undertaking.
The court heard that on Sept. 17, 2018, Bernard took a bicycle from her father’s home without his consent.
Bernard didn’t return the bike and the court heard her father called the police in the hope it would get her help with her addiction issues.
She later failed to attend court in November and in February.
Bernard has been in custody since Feb. 20.
Orr gave Bernard a suspended sentence with one year of probation for the theft and a total of 10 days for the other two charges.
After credit for time served, Bernard had nothing left on her sentence.
Bernard must also pay $200 in restitution or, with the consent of her probation officer, perform personal service work for her father at a rate of $10 per hour she completes.
